Former partner of Epstein says she doesn’t believe he killed himself

(MENAFN) Ghislaine Maxwell, former partner and confidante of Jeffrey Epstein, has expressed disbelief that the convicted sex offender took his own life in jail. Maxwell, serving a 20-year sentence for trafficking women, including a minor, spoke during a recent Department of Justice interview.

According to a transcript released Friday, Maxwell said, “I do not believe he died by suicide, no.” She dismissed the idea that Epstein was killed on orders from an external party, suggesting any foul play would have been “an internal situation.”

When asked whether Epstein could have been targeted for possessing incriminating information on influential figures, Maxwell replied, “I do not have any reason to believe that. And I also think it’s ludicrous.” She added that any such action could have occurred when Epstein was not in jail.

Maxwell also denied claims that Epstein engaged in blackmail or maintained a “client list” connected to sex trafficking. Epstein was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial.

Some Democrats and conservative commentators have alleged a coverup involving President Donald Trump, though FBI and DOJ reviews found no evidence of an “Epstein list.” Trump, who ended his friendship with Epstein years before his 2008 conviction, called the allegations a politically motivated campaign to discredit him.
